Tokyo Olympics Virtual Production - New York Times

2020/21 Tokyo Olympics Virtual Production

In preparation for the Tokyo 2021 Olympics, The Times wanted to spotlight three "athletes to watch" in the summer games. We wanted to capture the athletes and their movements as accurately as possible in order to tell a true story and what makes them each a frontrunner in their event.

My team used tools like 3-D scanning, motion capture, athletic visualization and Photogrammetry to put together the final animations used to complete each article seen below.

interactive web pieces

We put together three interactive articles which use a device called "scrollytelling." As you scroll through the article, we use the mechanic to blend the animations into shot footage and allow the user to scrub through and get a frame-by-frame view of how each of these athletes moves and performs.
